This conservation method is used where areas of the textiles background are missing or fragile. It gives the textile stability and prevents further unraveling. After selecting  and dying appropriate material, the fabric is attached to the back, and  reinforced around the perimeter of the damaged area. When there are loose sections or threads of the textile, these too are secured to the patch.
